60s Dude

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but our Blanchard Warrenville campus has been overrun by two theater companies in July–Christian Youth Theater and Acorn Community Theater from Warrenville.  As a matter of fact, tonight (Friday, July 17), is Acorn’s first performance of “Godspell”.  You may not have been a part of Blanchard Warrenville during our “Community Building” years, but we shared space with Acorn for many of their programs.  Who’d have ever thought that we would have a chance to be in the same building together again?

As the City of Warrenville prepares to remodel the Community Building, Acorn needed a place this summer to put on their show.  Although Warrenville’s Acorn isn’t a Christian organization, I’m delighted people will have a chance to hear the story of Jesus, albeit through the bright and flowery  kaleidoscope of the 60’s.  It’s a story worth telling over and over again just so that more and more people–kids, moms and dads, Latinos and Old Warrenville families–get just one more chance to think about what Jesus means to them.

When we at Blanchard Alliance Church started our journey to develop a second campus over three years ago, we knew it would take a lot of work, a lot of sacrificial giving, a lot of prayer and a lot of people just being real about their common need of rescue from a beautiful God like Jesus.  We also desired for our new campus to be a place where the community can find shelter, rest and welcome.

So bring on the 60’s psychedelic tie-dye t-shirts and the beads.  Welcome, Warrenville.  We so glad you’re here.
